What a year 2020 was, in truth it was my busiest ever, but that all came to an abrupt end when Boris told us all told to stay at home again.
When I say us, I think it’s mostly just me, because nothing seems any different out there!
Anyway the DVSA has suspended all Motorcycle Training and Testing until further notice.
Obviously they’re doing it to protect their staff from the virus at the Test Centres, but to stop people learning to ride when they’re out in fresh air, wearing a helmet and communicating via radio, doesn’t make any sense to me.
What you have to realise is that the DVSA is a huge monopoly that at present doesn’t really have to report to anyone in Government.
It is self funding and run by faceless Civil Servants who have an in-tray, an out-tray and a big clock to watch and I’m pretty sure they are all ‘working’ from home on full pay, whilst I have spent most of this year applying for grants to keep my business afloat.
I know they’re still out there because duplicated emails telling me not to go to work keep arriving in my inbox. I don’t dislike the people, I just hate the system.
Did you know that the CBT syllabus is now 30 years old?
On a more positive note, the stats show that ‘powered two wheelers’ are safer year on year.
That in no small part is because Motorcycle Instruction is better now than it ever was, not just at here at Solo, but across the board.
Go team Instructors 😉
